Near the end of Eve's spring break we went to Lincoln National Park in Indiana. We spent 3 days and 2 nights. We met up with Mike, Taralie, and their kids. We enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, and visiting the nature center- especially when it rained at the very end.
Overall the weather was perfect and we had a very relaxing time.

I should appropriately insert a favorite childhood quote here to Sheri:
"Buck up little camper." She didn't hike very much on her own although we did prod her.

Meanwhile, these 3 rascals hiked too far ahead and forked the wrong way. There were a few different ways they could have gone so we had to split up to find them. They were found not too long after and given an important lesson about staying with the group.

The kids having fun:

We spent the better part of an afternoon canoeing and playing in the lake. It began as wading but naturally progressed as you can see.

In the evening we relaxed around the campground

and enjoyed s'mores . . .

and campfire games. Grandpa Smith has definately left a legacy with the campfire traditions he has started!
The last morning we were starting breakfast when the ranger came and told us that severe thunderstorms were about 1 hour away. We quickly broke camp and were throwing the last bags in our car just as the rain started to fall. We spent a few hours in the nature center again, dressing up, playing cards, looking at fun things and snacking. Then we went to a nearby buffalo farm to see the 1 week old calves.

We then enjoyed the memorials and visitor's center about Abraham Lincoln. I was touched by learning more about his character.
One final interesting note is that on this trip Sheri got 2 ticks, and Matthew and Eve each got one. Yikes! I was glad that Matt was able to pry the suckers out. They did not let go easily.
Don't let the tick talk leave you with a bad impression. We had a wonderful time and some much needed R & R on this trip.
