December started with the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. Sterling and Matt created his car in record time (in one evening). That just shows how busy things have been. Anyway, it turned out awesome.
Speaking of creations, Eve created this model of a cell for her school class project.
Eve also had her first band concert in December. She has loved playing the flute.
Christian continues to enjoy his dance and gymnastics classes. Here is a cute pic from a dance they showed parents in December.
We were happy to attend Ballet Met's Nutcracker (after Christmas) with Nassim and Syrus Klein. The theater was very grand and ornate. The dancing was so fun to watch. I think my favorite scene is always the snow scene. I love this tradition!
We decided to buy a real tree again this year. It was enormous! When it settled in, it was about 7 feet wide and 8 feet tall. I loved the fresh scent of pine. It was a highlight for me in December!
A few days before Christmas Matt's brother, Jeff and his son, Caleb came to visit us. They gave us some very special gifts, Myrrh and Frankincense (as well as a beautiful incense burner). There is symbolism of the atonement with these spices which was very special. It gave me a greater appreciation for them! They also gave us some new games, including one from Matt's childhood that Jeff made a game board for, and Tenzi. We have very much enjoyed these gifts!
Christmas Eve day we were able to go see the new movie, Pan. I also worked on the Smith family traditional pastry wreath. This year I felt pretty prepared and not rushed in finishing my Christmas preparations. :)
Here are the kids with their stocking stashes on Christmas morning.
Here we are reenacting the Nativity Story.
Present time. The kids especially LOVED the gifts that had been selected by their siblings.
We had dinner with friends in the evening. It was a very cozy Christmas.
I love this family of mine. Merry Christmas everyone!
