Changing Seasons

This is such a beautiful time of year! We decided to enjoy the beauty of the coming autumn by attending the Apple Jack Festival in Nebraska city. The kids had Friday, Spetember 14th off of school and so we spent the whole day.

Most of the carnival type events didn't start until evening and so we decided to head to Arbor Day Farm. There was nothing spectacular about the farm, just the natural beauty of trees and nature. We strolled on the paths that led through the trees and enjoyed the little activities. I was surprised at how happy the kids were. They seemed to just enjoy being out in nature, not needing any huge entertainment. It was wonderful to be with Matthew and watch him play with the kids.

Acorn wars. The best laugh of the day came when an acorn bounced off a tree and hit Matt directly on the head. He gave a surprised look and sort of crossed his eyes just like something out of a cartoon. I still can't think about it without laughing.

Then came the fun of apple picking.

Matthew retrieved the perfect apple for me. Isn't it beautiful?

There was also a little corn maze.

We finished at the farm by eating a picnic lunch, then getting free baby trees, and checking out the little shop where there were all kinds of apple goodies. We were content with our bag of apples.:)

We also had a chance to visit some historic buildings in the area. One of which was part of the Underground Railroad. The kids enjoyed the tunnel from the cellar to the nearby grounds. I think they also got a basic understanding of what slavery was and how it impacted the lives of the people of our nation.

We headed home by late afternoon as Eve had a soccer game.

Recently Sterling scored a goal. He was so determined looking as he approached the goal. Then after he kicked it in he gave a sort of mean look as if he were saying "And don't mess with me anymore!" It was hilarious! He looked as if he could have said "I eat soccer balls like you for breakfast!"

We have had such a nice time being out in the cool mornings and evenings. Matthew and I really enjoy watching the kids' games.

And now, autumn has arrived! What beauty and happiness are all around us!
